have spent many years searching for a theory of healing that unites all healing methods. This began during my chiropractic training and continues today. My inspiration for looking for the unified theory of healing came from studying and meeting many practitioners who used many different forms of treatment. What I still find astonishing is that despite the differences in treatments all of these methods have successes.

From the almost non-existent amounts of substances of homeopathy to the ethereal unmeasurable "energy" of Reiki to the needles of acupunture to the joint manipulations of chiropractic to the powerful molecules of medicine, none of these methods would exist without some success.

So, according to my thinking there must be some underlying mechanism that all of these healing methods affect in some way or another. Like the spokes of a wheel radiating from a common center, all healing methods must be connected in some way.

After searching for the "common ground" of healing, I found that the theory of information is the only (in my opinion) viable theory that could unify all healing methods.

This is what my book Unlocking the Healing Code is about. Finding a theory that unifies all healing methods. Information theory fits the bill.

In order to describe healing in terms of exchanges of information we must see that information is at the essence of everything. Information is at the core of reality.

There is a good deal of science that is pointing to a description of reality in terms of information. The famous physicist John Wheeler once remarked "It from bit" to convey that everything that exists in our universe comes from information.

So, needless to say I was happy to see an article in Discover magazine about cosmologist Max Tegmark (click here for the interview).

Tegmark's work in cosmology does not only encompass the mathematical laws of nature but why these laws exist at all. This vein of thinking rings a bit like the anthropic principle which explains the finely tuned laws of physics as existing in one universe out of an infinite number of others. In other words if the laws of physics were off by an infinitesimal amount, life and our universe would not exist.

Tegmark's work goes one step further. He states "there is only mathematics; that is all that exists." Mathematics is a set of relationships. Information is a set of relationships. So, at a fundamental level, all that exists in reality is information. Was Wheeler right? Does the work of Tegmark support the idea that information in the form of mathematics is at the root of all of reality? I think both are true.

For example many scientists believe that string theory will eventually turn out to be the theory of everything. In string theory the fundamental particles of nature are made of vibrating strings. But just what are these strings? Strings can be thought of as mathematical relationships.

In the Discover article Tegmark states "some people think string theory is the ultimate theory of the universe, the so-called theory of everything. If that turns out to be true, then string theory will be a mathematical structure complex enough so that self-awareness can exist within it."

I am really excited about the work of Max Tegmark and happy to see work like his gaining international attention. Quantum physics gave us the idea that everything is connected. Information theory will give us more about how reality and life work at a fundamental level.
